Do You Know How Fast You're Going?
In the Township of Lake of Bays, the speed limit for off-road vehicles (ORVs) depends strictly on the posted speed limit for regular cars and trucks
On roads where the posted limit is 50 km/h or less:
Your maximum speed is 20 km/h
On roads where the posted limit is greater than 50 km/h:
Your maximum speed is 50 km/h
While Ontario Regulation 316/03 specifies safety and operational baseline rules, and Ontario Regulation 8/03 sets 80 km/h speed limits for certain municipalities, local municipalities retain the authority to regulate their own specific roadways.
Under the Township of Lake of Bays ORV By-Law 2016-041, the township implements these halved/lowered speed caps for ATVs to mix safely with regular vehicular traffic.
